Donna Lorenzo
Violist and viola d’amorist, Dr. Donna A. Lorenzo has performed in many venues. Her solo and chamber music performances include concerts at Carnegie’s Weill Hall, Lincoln Center, Kilbourn Hall, La Scala, Paris Opera, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, Salzburg, Aspen Edinburgh, Gstaad, Stuttgart, Jerusalem, Roycroft and many other music festivals. In 1980 she was invited to be principal viola and viola d’amore soloist with I Solisti Veneti, performing and recording with them as chamber musician and soloist in major halls and other venues worldwide. During that period she was also principal viola soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of Padova and Veneto. She has also played in the Buffalo Philharmonic, Phoenix Symphony, Chautauqua Symphony, and La
Fenice of Venice. She has been a member of the Philharmonic and Litton Quartets, the Camerata di Sant‘Antonio and the Ars Nova Chamber Musicians. With that group she has performed and recorded as viola and viola d’amore soloist and has premiered many works both old and new for both instruments. Donna also researches old and promotes new music and is noted for her improvisations. In 2003, she received the Eastman School of Music prize for outstanding private studio teaching. Many of her students have gone on to careers in music. She also taught for Houghton College.
Dr. Lorenzo holds degrees from the Juilliard School of Music and Eastman School of Music. She was privileged to study with Eldon Basney, Lillian Fuchs, Francis Tursi, Gerard Ruymen, John Graham, Mischa Schneider as well as the Juilliard, Budapest, Cleveland and American Quartets.
